Former state treasurer Nancy Farmer endorsed yesterday Steven Brown in the 73rd District.
I’m never been one to believe a single endorsement leads to swarms of votes locked up on Election Day. Rather I think this - like Harris’ Coleman announcement yesterday, or Koster’s McCulloch a week ago - sends a message to potential supporters. In the Harris and Koster cases, they signal that despite St. Louis being Margaret Donnelly’s home turf, they have support there. It’s a subtle call to other Dems in that area - Hey, you should give me a look before you decide.
For Brown, the same is true. Landing this endorsement from Nancy Farmer helps Brown compete for the women’s vote despite being the only man in a three-way primary.
Here’s her statement:
I am proud to announce my support and endorsement of Steve Brown for State Representative of the 73rd District. Steve will be a tireless representative for all of the people in the district and his constituents will have no better advocate in the State Capitol.
Steve has already proven himself as a trustworthy public servant, serving as assistant attorney general. He also has a respected history as a community activist, promoting Democratic ideals and candidates at the local, state, and federal levels.
Like so many other women in Missouri politics, I have known Steve for years and greatly benefited from his family’s dedication to seeing good Democrats get elected. In fact, Steve’s aunt, Sue Shear, was a mentor and encouraged me to run in my first election for State Representative. I am delighted to have the opportunity to announce my endorsement of Steve Brown, so that he may continue his family’s tradition of service to the people of Missouri.
